ARP spoofing

Arp spoofing or sometimes other known as ARP poisoning is a method used where the hacker will send a ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) message to local area network hoping to associate the hackers MAC address with a victims IP.

ARP spoofing consists of targeting the weaknesses in ARP otherwise known as Address Resolution Protocol.

In the case where a hacker is successful with spoofing the victims IP, any traffic being sent to the victim will be sent to the hacker which can enable them to view the victims usernames, passwords, websites and even modify the package.

How does ARP requests work?

For example let us pretend we have 4 computers on the same network, computer A will send out a broadcast message asking who has 10.0.2.6, all of the devices will ignore this package, except for the pc who has the IP address asked for, which in this case we will call computer B.

Computer B will then responsed to computer A with a ARP package telling them their IP address along with their MAC address.
